Siggi String Quartet performs three quartets by composers closely tied to the ensemble. Siggi String Quartet premiered "Flowen" by Veronique Vaka in 2020 and premiered "Woods vanished" by Maria Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir in 2021. Siggi String Quartet has recently recorded all of Atli Heimir Sveinsson´s string quartets which will be released later this year. "Aldarmót" is the most extensive of the quartets and has not been performed since its premiere almost 40 years ago.

SIGGI STRING QUARTET was founded in 2012 around the Ung Nordisk Musik Festival. Since then the quartet has premiered several works and collaborated with a large number of composers as well as exploring older repertoire. Previous projects include the Iceland premiere of the 5 hour long 2nd String Quartet of Morton Feldman, Jón Leifs Quartets, Beethoven Quartets, Philip Glass recordings for Deutsche Grammophon with pianist Víkingur Ólafsson and the oevre of Atli Heimir Sveinsson. The debut album “South of the Circle” (2019) on Sono Luminus includes works of Daníel Bjarnason, Mamiko Dís Ragnarsdóttir, Valgeir Sigurðsson, Una Sveinbjarnardóttir and Haukur Tómasson. Siggi String Quartet also featured prominently on the albums of Halldór Smárason and Gunnar Andreas Kristinsson released by Sono Luminus. Siggi String Quartet received “Performer of the Year” at the 2018 Icelandic Music Awards.
